Apple has long been established as a titan of the tech industry and a revenue behemoth. As the first company in history to hit the $1 trillion, $2 trillion and $3 trillion market cap milestones (really!), the Californian electronics behemoth is currently worth around $3.45 trillion – more than the UK’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023!
When digging into Apple’s financials, it doesn’t take long to work out why it has grown to such a meteoric size.
Its flagship iPhone is still the company’s top-selling product (generating more than 50% of total revenue). However, it has continued to add ‘must-have’ tech to its roster, including its ubiquitous and instantly recognisable AirPods.
Here, Daniel Frampton, Chartered Wealth Manager at Acumen explores AirPods revenue vs other tech companies and attempts to unpick how and why this Apple product has enjoyed such a stellar rise in popularity and profits.
AirPods Revenue 2024
Apple’s AirPod revenues in 2024 are estimated to generate around $22 billion, according to Bloomberg. As such, if AirPods were a company in its own right, its revenue would easily eclipse X ($2.5B) and Spotify ($4.05B) combined.
It gives Netflix’s entire business a run for its money as well, with the streaming giant estimated to have generated in the region of $33.7B of total revenue in 2023.
AirPods net worth
According to the financial markets as of today, Netflix is worth just shy of $300 billion. This would indicate that, based on revenue alone, Apple’s AirPods market cap would be worth somewhere in the region of $195 billion.
There are, of course, a huge number of factors to take into account when calculating the fair value of a company or line of products – and revenue isn’t the only aspect that is considered.
However, it is completely mind-blowing how successful Apple is at creating wants and needs, and then delivering a product to satisfy them.
AirPods are a fashion statement
The technology inside the standard AirPods is not too far removed from the free wired headphones Apple used to provide with their devices. However, add in wireless capabilities and a £200 price tag and consumers go crazy.
AirPods are a fashion statement, functional and convenient. Apple never ceases to amaze me with how simple their products are and how much of an outsized impact they deliver to the consumer.
So, what do you think of Apple?
